Enter The Collector

Every month I will pick a couple of collectibles, that I or my friends own, to share with you. These are pieces that I particularly like. The first collectible I would like to show is the Wizard of OZ 50th anniversary jack in the box type music box collection produced by Enesco. This was produced in two versions. I believe the smaller size set (edition of 15,000) lids don’t close, plays music and is animated while the larger box set( edition of 7500) lids close and play music but are not animated. The boxes also included a COA. The larger set boxes roughly measures 8x6x6. If a seller is careless with his description, it’s easy to make a mistake and buy the wrong one. The same figures in the two sets are somewhat different and the bottom of the boxes are different.(below).

The boxes themselves are beautifully crafted from porcelain and wood. I have the large set save for the original box the witch came in. My son decided to cut it up for a school project..wonderful…They could have done a better likeness for some of the figures and of all the figures Dorothy looks the least like Dorothy from the film. They can be found on E-BAY with sellers asking from $25 TO $125 per box.

The second is what I would describe as a hologram of the classic Beatles album cover for Abbey Road. It measures 23 x 21 ½ inches framed. The top part is holographic. The bottom panels from left to right contain the full street address, facsimile signatures and a photo of the fab four crossing the street. It is not a numbered piece and hence relatively inexpensive perhaps no more than $250.

Now when I wear a blue jean shirt  together with blue jean pants my kids say dad that’s so 70’s and I say it worked for George Harrison and it works for me.
